Caution: This procedure will delete the factory basemap on your GPS. If you do not have it backed up or on CD do not proceed if you can not live with out the factory basemap.

Here is one way to customize you map 330 to give you more room to upload a bigger detail map. The stock map 330 comes with an 8MB basemap and 8MB available to upload detail maps. With this customization you can replace the stock basemap with one that is only 2MB allowing you to have 14MB for detail map. The first thing you need to do is download the Na_b101.zip file from http://groups.yahoo.com/group/m330/files/ This file is the basemap for the first Magellan Meridian GPS. This basemap has less detail that the basemap that came from the factory. But do you really use the basemap anyway? Then you need to download the uploadserial tool from here http://www.msh-tools.com/uploadserial.html. You can use Magellan Magup or their smcup.exe program; both of these tools are usually on their mapsend software cds. The uploadserial tool is much better and more intuitive. All you have to do is unzip the map file. Set the baud rate of your GPS. Launch the uploadserial program tell it where your basemap file is located, select the baud rate, com port and select that you want to upload the primary base map, you can also us this program to upload detail maps that where saved to your hard drive with out having to start MapSend, hit the send. 10 minutes later you will have much more detail map space. This modification will make it easier Using MapSend Topo 3D with your MAP 330

Caution: This procedure will delete the factory basemap on your GPS. If you do not have it backed up or on CD do not proceed if you can not live with out the factory basemap.
