Beach safes (also known as sport cases or dry capsules) are waterproof plastic storage containers designed for beach and boating use. They have a gasket between the container and the lid to keep water out, and a cord that allows them to be worn around the neck. They make excellent containers for geocaches.

There are two basic types of beach safe:

  • The more expensive type has a hinged lid with a latch opposite the lid to hold it shut. These are usually rectangular with rounded corners.
  • The less expensive type has a threaded lid that screws on. These are cylindrical.
